Fourth grade is off to a great start. The students have been working hard to get adjusted to all the routines of a new classroom. We are in full swing and have begun all academic areas.
In Math, we started the year reviewing place value, estimation, and addition. Please continue to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts at home. These are really the key to being successful in Math this year. Not knowing all basic facts will make Math more difficult.
In Science, we will be starting our first unit which is Energy. It will be filled with lots of experiments and fun!
In Social Studies, we started the year learning about why rules are important and who makes the rules for our country. We established a Code of Conduct for each individual classroom that followed the 6 pillars of good character. We discussed making the classroom a safe and fun place to learn. We also began discussing US Symbols and what they mean and are making class flags with symbols to represent the pillars of character that are referred to in our Code of Conduct. We will be moving on the the Creation of the Nation.
In Literacy, we are working on teaching children the importance of reading, how to choose books from the classroom library, and how to find meaning in what they read. Students have been writing about various topics, but will start a more structured writing in the upcoming weeks. Our first writing piece is a narrative.
